The Buffalo Trace Stampede
The Buffalo Trace Stampede is a road race held in historic Maysville, Kentucky. The event focuses on the 1 mile distance, providing a flat and fast road course for participants. The route begins at the Mason County Public Library on East 3rd Street and concludes at the Limestone Landing Fountain. The course includes a slight elevation change at the start designed to assist runners in maintaining pace, and all participants are timed using chip technology.
Participants can choose from three distinct categories for the 1 mile distance:
- 1 Mile Run: A competitive road race for runners of all ages.
- 1 Mile Walk: A dedicated category specifically for walkers.
- 1 Mile Dog Run: A race for participants running alongside their dogs.
The event serves as a fundraiser with proceeds benefiting the Mason County Animal Shelter. Competitive elements include cash awards for course record-breaking performances in both the open and Masters (40 and over) divisions. Current records for the course stand at 4:14.37 for men and 5:00.66 for women. Standard awards are presented to the top three overall male and female runners, as well as the top finishers across numerous age groups ranging from 13 and under to 80 and over. Specialized awards are also designated for the top male and female walkers, the first male and female running with a dog, and the top first responder from the local area.
Pre-registered participants are guaranteed an event t-shirt. Registration is conducted exclusively online, including on the day of the event. Packet pick-up is organized near the finish line at the intersection of Limestone and McDonald. Following the race, the Pickers and Grinners Market takes place in downtown Maysville.
