The Event
Broken Goat is a trail running event held on July 18, 2026. It takes place in the West Kootenay region and the town of Rossland, British Columbia. The races use the high alpine "7 Summits" trail. The event acknowledges it takes place on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the sngaytskstx (Sinixt) People.
The Distances
The available distances are:
- 50 km: A point-to-point traverse on the "7 Summits" trail, accessing several peaks and ridges, including Old Glory, the highest peak in the range at 2,376 m. Participants must be prepared for a long and strenuous journey in remote alpine terrain.
- 25 km: A point-to-point traverse along the "7 Summits" trail and Unnecessary Ridge, including the summit of Mount Plewman. The majority of the course cruises at an average elevation of 2,000 m.
- 12 km: Starts at the base of Red Mountain Resort and climbs to the summit of Red Mountain on single track trails.
- Kids Race: A non-timed, fun event covering approximately 1.5 km. The entry fee is $5, with 100% of the proceeds donated to the Canadian Mental Health Association, specifically Georgia's Wish.
Registration and Logistics
Registration opens on November 9, 2025 at 7:00 AM PST. The entry fee includes a $10 donation to the Kootenay Columbia Trail Society, a custom event t-shirt, a branded beer stein, a tote bag, a sticker, a handmade ceramic finisher's medal, and professional chip timing.
Shuttles to the start are mandatory for the 50 km and 25 km distances. A mandatory pre-recorded race briefing must be watched by all participants. The event is cup-free; runners must carry their own cup or hydration system for aid stations.
A mandatory gear list is required for all distances, including items like a lightweight jacket, an emergency blanket, minimum water capacity, and food calories. Random gear checks are conducted before and during the race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
