Breakheart Backyard Ultra

Breakheart Backyard Ultra : Breakheart Quarry, Gloucestershire

The Breakheart Backyard Ultra is a timed endurance event where competitors must complete a lap of 6706 metres (4.167 miles) in less than one hour. Each lap begins precisely one hour after the previous lap. Runners repeat the same distance every hour until only one competitor completes a lap more than all others and is declared the winner. Any runner not in the starting corral at the start of the hour or who fails to complete the lap within the hour will be withdrawn.

The course runs on mixed trail paths around Breakheart Quarry nature reserve and features about 560 ft of elevation gain per lap. Event headquarters are at Breakheart Quarry with space for hard-ground camping, toilets including accessible facilities, an indoor shelter, charging points, and limited car parking. Facilities listed for competitors include hot and cold drinking water, snacks, basic first aid and marshals, plumbed toilets, a log fire, and a zero waste log slice medal plus a beanie. Camping is provided without electrical hook-ups.

Entry fees are Early Bird £75 (closes 01/09/2025) and Standard £85. Registration requires completion of a race waiver. Runners must follow the race briefing and rules such as the 3, 2 and 1 minute warnings before each lap, no non-competitors on course, no personal aid during a loop, and no artificial aids.
