Break the Barrier is an inclusive athletic event hosted by ConnectAbility of MN, designed for participants of all mobility levels. The event takes place in Waite Park and offers multiple distances that participants can complete by running, walking, or rolling.
The following distances are available:

- 1 km Run, Walk, or Roll
The routes start and finish at the ConnectAbility of MN parking lot. The 5 km course follows a loop through local streets including 3rd Street, 31st Avenue, and 4th Street. A water station is located at the halfway point on 5th Street, where volunteers provide water for both participants and dogs. The 1 km route features optional colorful chalk paths covering half the width of the course for a guided experience.
On the day of the event, the building is open for public tours of the Assistive Technology and Mobility Lab. The event parking area serves as a hub with community resource booths, free snacks, and water. All participants receive a medal upon crossing the finish line. Those who register by May 15, 2026, are also provided with an event shirt. Check-in takes place at the event tent, where participants pick up their bibs and shirts.
