Event overview
Boyne Valley 50 is a multi-distance trail running event held on the Dawes Range section of the Boyne Burnett Inland Rail Trail. The event is a registered UTMB Index race. Distances offered include:
- 50k
- 23k Uphill
- 23k Downhill
- 12k Taster
The start/finish precinct is at The Grand Hotel Many Peaks on Gladstone Monto Road. Parking will be along the main road; entrants are asked to avoid private property when parking.
Course and logistics
The course uses the rail trail between Many Peaks and Barrimoon siding and passes through tunnels and scenic sections of the trail. The 50k is an out-and-back lap to Barrimoon. The 23k Uphill finishes at Barrimoon with shuttle transfer back to Many Peaks; the 23k Downhill begins at Barrimoon and returns to Many Peaks by rail trail. The 12k follows the rail trail 6 km to a turnaround and returns. Cut-off times apply for each distance and will be strictly enforced.
Aid stations with water, fruit and some hydration products are located at Golembil and Barrimoon sidings. No cups are provided; competitors must carry a cup or water bottle. Composting toilets are available at Golembil and Barrimoon; toilet access is also provided at the event precinct.
Entry, mandatory gear and other details
Entry fees vary by distance and by early bird or general registration. Minimum ages apply: 50k and 23k Uphill require entrants aged 18 or older; 23k Downhill minimum age is 16 (under 18 must be supervised); 12k minimum age is 13 (under 15 must be supervised). Mandatory gear includes a visible race bib, a water container of specified capacity per distance, and a compression bandage. A charged mobile phone is mandatory for 50k and 23k competitors.
