About the race
Boyle River Weekend is a night orienteering event on Saturday 14 November 2026 held at Boyle River. The event uses the Boyle River map and is organised as a classic orienteering format as part of the PAPO OY series; OY points are awarded to PAPO club members. Participants should bring a good headtorch and note that whistles are compulsory. Dogs are not permitted at the event.
Electronic punching will use Sportident with Air mode enabled; both standard SI sticks and SI Air+ are available for hire, with SI Air+ as a pre-entry option. Standard SI hire is recommended for newcomers. Pre-entry is preferred. Entries open about two weeks before the event and pre-entries close on Tuesday 10 November; limited enter-on-the-day places will be available and will be charged at non-member prices.
Payments are made by credit or debit card at the time of entry through the event entry system. For families or caregivers participating together, only juniors need to register and pay. Six OY courses are provided with minimal climb and reduced distances for night conditions: - White: very short, under 2 km. - Yellow: short, 2 to 3 km. - Orange: medium, 3 to 4 km. - Short Red: medium, 3 to 4 km. - Medium Red: long, 4 to 6 km. - Long Red: very long, 7 to 9 km. Boyle River is about 40 minutes from Hanmer Springs on Lewis Pass Road SH7. Parking and the registration and start area are adjacent to the carpark.
PAPO has booked the Boyle River Outdoor Education Centre lodge with bunks and camping available. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
