Hanmer Half
The Hanmer Half is a trail running event held in Hanmer Springs that features forest and mountain scenery. The course winds through the Hanmer Heritage Forest and offers views of surrounding mountains and alpine air. Many sections pass through stands of 100-year-old trees and display golden autumn colours.
The event offers two distances:
- 21 km Hanmer Forest Trail, which includes a climb up Conical Hill and runs through varied forest trails.
- 10.5 km Heritage Traverse, a mostly flat course that follows the edge of the Heritage Forest through mature woodland.
The Hanmer Half has been run on local trails since 1981. Event entry opened on 2 September 2026 for the 2027 edition. The event is owned by the Hanmer Springs Community Trust and proceeds support local projects, including contributions to the Hanmer Springs Health Centre.
The event description notes that participants can combine the run with time in the village to soak in the local facilities, eat, and explore the area. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
