Booneville Backroads Ultra : September 5, 2026, Booneville, IA
The Booneville Backroads Ultra features multiple distances staged in rural central Iowa, with courses that pass through many of the Bridges of Madison County and surrounding countryside. The event offers the following distances:
- 100 Miler
- 100K
- 50K
- 10K
The course terrain includes thousands of feet of elevation gain and many hills. Local level B roads are part of the route and can become difficult when wet. Organizers note that a cue sheet system has been used historically and participants are still required to carry cue sheets; for 2026 the 50K, 100K, and 100-mile courses will also be marked.
Organizers announced three changes for 2026: permanent marking of the ultra-distance courses, a discount program for female runners who are members of Trail Sisters groups, and permission for crew support on course with restrictions. Crew support will be limited to one crew vehicle per participant or, for groups of runners, one crew vehicle per group; this support is intended to supplement aid stations and will have additional restrictions posted later.
