Event overview

LGRAW's Bold in the Cold is a winter road/trail running event held around Lake Grapevine and organized by Lake Grapevine Runners and Walkers (LGRAW). The course follows the C. Shane Wilbanks Trail along the lake and uses out-and-back layouts with a common finish area near the LGRAW clubhouse. The event has two distance options:

  • 5K
  • 15K

Proceeds support LGRAW operations and programs, and at least 30% of this year’s race proceeds will be donated to the LGRAW Scholarship Fund for local track and cross-country runners. Both races are 100% volunteer produced and the event typically requires close to 100 volunteers.

Logistics and services

Timing uses the IPICO chip system with shoe tags; participants pick up shoe tags on race day and must return them at the finish. Aid stations provide water and Gatorade on course and at the start/finish area; the 15K passes aid stations four times and the 5K passes them twice. Porta-potties are located at the start/finish, at the boathouse turn, and near the 5K turnaround or the 15K 1.5-mile point. There is no gear check. Parking is free with primary parking at the Oak Grove Soccer Complex and limited parking at the Oak Grove Softball Complex north lot. Participants have 2.5 hours to complete the courses to receive an official race result.

Entry and extras

All participants receive a technical race shirt while supplies last; shirts are unisex in sizes XS–3XL, with the first 300 registrants guaranteed a shirt. Overall and top three age-group finishers receive medals for both distances. RaceJoy is provided as part of the official race experience.
