About the race
The Blue Grass Veterans 5K is an event held on November 14, 2026, in Blue Grass, Iowa, organized by American Legion Post 711 at 106 S Juniata St. The course is relatively flat, starting and finishing at the Post, heading out Old Highway 61 and back, with a water stop at the 5K turnaround near Zachary Avenue.
Three event options are offered:
- 5K Run : timed with awards for overall male and female and age groups.
- 5K Ruck : timed; pack weight at participant discretion; awards for top male, female, and team.
- 1.5-mile Walk : out-and-back family-friendly course; certificates for participants.
Awards for the 5K Run include overall and age-group categories for male and female: Under 12, 13–16, 17–21, 22–29, 30–39, 40–49, 50–59, 60–74, and 75+. Timing uses a starting-pistol start and a popsicle-stick finish.
Registration categories and fees are listed for Veterans, Everyday Heroes, and Adults, with an additional fee added after October 30 and higher day-of-race fees. Registrations through October 30 are guaranteed a T-shirt and commemorative dog tag. Packet pickup is available the evening before and the morning of the event at Post 711.
