Blouklip Trail Run, Waterford Estate, Stellenbosch
The event is a set of trail races based at Waterford Estate in Stellenbosch, Western Cape. Routes run next to the Blouklip River, up toward the Helderberg mountain and along the slopes of Stellenbosch mountain, passing vineyards and winery properties.
Longer routes head toward the neck at Lourensford and offer views of the Helderberg Dome and Suurberg. Part of the course passes through indigenous trees noted by the World Wide Fund for Nature. One route follows a single track used by a winemaker to reach a cellar; elsewhere participants run past vineyards and under a canopy of riverside trees and cross an old bridge.
Distances and elevation gains:
- 24 km - 1 450 m vertical gain
- 15 km - 700 m vertical gain
- 8 km - 250 m vertical gain
Aid stations are provided on all distances. A hydration pack is compulsory on the 15 km and 24 km routes, and a rain jacket plus a charged phone are required. Parking at the venue is limited and online entries only are accepted; there are no entries on the day. Dogs are not allowed, and substitutions or cancellations are restricted within seven days of the event.
After the races, the venue hosts wine stands, food trucks and live music next to the vineyards. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
