The Blazin' Battle Against Brain Cancer

The Blazin' Battle Against Brain Cancer is a running event held in Greenville, Rhode Island, to support the Rhode Island Brain & Spine Tumor Foundation. The event serves as a memorial for Jim Varin, a Providence firefighter, with proceeds assisting patients and families through education, financial support, and medical research. The race takes place at Deerfield Park.

Participants can choose between several road race distances and virtual options:

  • 10 km (6.2 Miles) running race
  • 5 km (3.1 Miles) running race
  • Virtual 10 km (6.2 Miles) remote race
  • Virtual 5 km (3.1 Miles) remote race

For the in-person 10 km event, participants must be at least 12 years of age. The organizers do not allow dogs or strollers on the course for any of the distances. Participants pick up their bib numbers on the morning of the event at Deerfield Park and are encouraged to present their registration QR code on a mobile device for check-in.

Awards are presented to the top three overall male and female finishers in both the 5 km and 10 km races. Additionally, first-place awards are given to male and female winners in age group increments ranging from 19 and under to 90 and over. The event is a partner race for the NE 65+ Running Club.
