About the race
The Blazin’ Battle Against Brain Cancer is a community run held in Greenville, Rhode Island on May 16, 2027. The event benefits the Rhode Island Brain and Spine Tumor Foundation and is organized in memory of a Providence firefighter who died after a diagnosis of glioblastoma. The event aims to support individuals and families affected by brain and spine tumors through education, spiritual and financial assistance and by supporting related research.
Distances offered:
- 10k (6.2 miles)
- 5k (3.1 miles)
Both in-person and virtual options are available for the 5k and 10k. Registration fees listed are $40 for the 10k, $30 for the in-person 5k, and $40 for each virtual race. The in-person races had an earlier registration window closing at the end of 2026 while virtual entries remain open through the event date. The 10k has a minimum age requirement of 12 years.
Race logistics include bib pickup at Deerfield Park on race day from 6:30 AM to 7:45 AM; bibs are assigned at check-in and participants are asked to present a QR code from a mobile device for faster processing. Dogs and strollers are not allowed at the event.
Awards are given to the top three overall male and female finishers for both distances and first place age group awards for male and female runners. Age groups include 19 & under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 84-90, and 90+. The event is a partner race for the NE 65+ Running Club.
