Course and support
Races run on the trails of Amat Kwanyil at Black Mountain, an extinct volcano and land of the Kumeyaay People. The terrain includes chaparral and coastal sage scrub, manzanita-lined single-track, laurel sumac, and a mix of technical single-track and jeep trail. Trails can be rocky, steep, and technical. Approximate elevation gain is about 5,500 feet in the 50K, 2,500 feet in the 25K, and 2,000 feet in the half marathon. Wildlife noted on the course includes deer, bobcats, red diamond rattlesnakes, and occasional mountain lion. Each aid station is staffed by ham radio operators who relay runner and aid-station information to headquarters. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
