Black-Eyed Pea 5K
The Black-Eyed Pea 5K is an annual running event held in Athens, Texas, as part of the Jamburgeree festival. The event begins and ends at the Cain Center YMCA (214 Loyola Drive) and follows a course that passes through Cain Park and along Robbins Road before returning to the finish area.
Two distance options are offered:
- 5K timed race with chip timing provided by iTRI365.
- One-mile Family Fun Run that loops through Cain Park.
Registration and participant services are handled online through the Active platform; paper registration is not available. Packet pick-up is available on race day only. 5K participants receive chip-timed results and are eligible for overall and age division awards. Registration also includes an official event T-shirt while supplies last and a participant swag bag.
The race is presented by UT Health Athens, with additional support from UT Health EMS, the Athens Amateur Radio Club, Chamber Ambassadors, volunteers, and sponsors. After the event, participants and attendees may access Jamburgeree activities in downtown Athens, including live entertainment, vendors, food, and family-oriented activities that highlight the community's festival traditions.
