Bizz Johnson's Southside Scramble
Bizz Johnson's Southside Scramble is a cupless trail race held in the lower Susan River Canyon on June 20, 2026. All distances start and finish at the Hobo Camp Day Use Area and follow a looping route that uses the Bizz Johnson Trail outbound and returns on the South Side singletrack.

Course details vary by distance. The 22K follows a fire road onto the Bizz Johnson Trail to Devil's Corral, drops to the Susan River, crosses a seasonal foot bridge, and returns on South Side singletrack with rockslides and vista points. The 14K reaches the first railroad tunnel before climbing over the tunnel to join the South Side Trail. The 7K uses the Twin Bridges access connector to reach the South Side singletrack for the return to Hobo Camp. In odd-numbered years the course is reversed and the race director may alter the route.
Aid stations serve fruit, salty snacks, Heed electrolyte drink, and water. Specific aid station locations include Mile 3.8 on the Bizz Johnson Trail, Devil's Corral at about Mile 5.94, and a station on the South Side Trail roughly two miles from the finish. Time limits are published by distance. Finishers receive a custom microfiber towel and medal. Packet pickup is available the day before at the Susanville Historic Train Depot and on race morning at Hobo Camp. Parking at Hobo Camp is limited; alternative trailhead parking and a flat walk to the start are available. Restrooms are at the start/finish area and at Devil's Corral.
