Bishop High Sierra Ultras - May 16, 2026
The Bishop High Sierra Ultras take place at Millpond Recreation Area in Bishop, CA and offer multiple mountain distances. Events include:
- 6k
- 20 Mile Fun Run
- 53K
- 50 Mile
- 100K
The courses run in the foothills of the Eastern Sierra Nevada and are high in elevation with significant climbing. Much of the 100K and 50 Mile courses lie above 7000 feet. Surfaces are mainly four wheel drive dirt roads with short sections of single-track trail and very short sections of pavement. There are very few trees; the routes are exposed, often dry, and sometimes rocky.
Weather can vary widely from cold or snowy to hot and windy. Typical conditions may include sunny periods with afternoon breezes and temperatures rising from the high 40s toward the 90s later in the day.
Aid stations are placed about every 3 to 7 miles and offer a wide variety of food and drinks beyond standard fare. Stations carry medical kits, foot care supplies, anti-chafe products, and sunscreen; pain relief medication will not be offered. Medical staff are present at aid stations and runners are tracked by a local Ham Radio club.
Finishers receive a custom medallion and overall winners receive prizes by gender including non-binary. Thirty custom coffee mugs will be available for purchase for $30 each on a first come, first served basis with reservations accepted. Dogs are not allowed at Millpond or in the start and finish area.
The event is operated by the Eastern Sierra Interpretive Association and benefits the Eastern Sierra Youth Outdoor Program and Inyo County Search and Rescue. All net proceeds will be donated to these organizations. The race holds necessary permits from land management agencies. The time limit for all distances is midnight.
