Course and services
Races are held at high altitude with substantial climbing; much of the 100K and 50 Mile courses are above 7,000 feet. The course is mainly on 4-wheel-drive dirt roads, with a few single-track sections and short sections of pavement. The route is exposed, often hot and usually dry, and can be rocky in places. Weather can vary widely from cold or snow to warm and windy.
Aid stations are placed at roughly 3 to 7 mile intervals. Each station has medical kits, foot care supplies, anti-chafe products and sunscreen. Pain relief medications will not be offered. Aid stations are staffed with medical personnel and runners are tracked by a local ham radio club with radio contact at the finish.
