The 13th Annual 5K Forward: Fast Track to Empowerment was held on Sunday at Hudson River Park’s Pier 45. The event was a 5K and brought together hundreds of runners, sponsors, partners, and volunteers in support of Birch Family Services. Individuals and families served by Birch participated in the race, and parents, loved ones, and friends lined the course.
Purpose and outcomes
The race coincided with Birch Family Services’ 50th anniversary and supported the organization’s work with individuals with autism and developmental disabilities through education, employment, and community services. Funds raised through the event are used to further Birch’s mission; Birch reports supporting more than 2,000 individuals and their families each day throughout New York City. Top finishers were acknowledged and a top fundraising team was identified as Team Sammy. Fundraising for the event continued through June 30.
