Big Sur River Run
The Big Sur River Run is a community athletic event held in Big Sur, California. Since its inception in 1981, this event has served as a fundraiser for two local organizations, Big Sur Fire and the Big Sur Health Center. Over 30,000 participants have taken part in the races since the inaugural edition.
The event features two primary running distances:
- 5 km (3.1 miles) Family Fun Run or Walk
- 10 km (6.2 miles) Certified race course
The courses consist of flat, black-top road loops that follow along the Big Sur River. Participants pass through the redwood and oak grove campgrounds of Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park. For the 10 km distance, prizes are awarded to the overall winners and the top finishers in their respective categories.
Safety regulations are strictly enforced on the course. Bicycles, dogs, strollers, skates, and wagons are not permitted. Use of any wheeled conveyances is prohibited, with the exception of wheelchairs. The event offers specific registration categories for both adults and children under 12 years of age.
