Event overview

The Big South Fork Trail Race is scheduled for Saturday, September 26, 2026 in Oneida, Tennessee at Bandy Creek Campground in the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area. The event offers two race options:

  • 17.5 Mile
  • 10K

All runners must pre-register. Registration policies include no refunds, no bib transfers, and no late or race day registration. A $5 Knoxville Track Club member discount applies. Shirt options: each 17.5 Mile entrant receives a long-sleeve sweatshirt; each 10K entrant receives a long-sleeve cotton T-shirt. A no-shirt option reduces the fee by $5. A family picnic is held after the race; additional meal tickets are available for $10.

Course, awards and rules

The 17.5 Mile event is an out-and-back loop beginning and ending at the John Litton General Slavens Trailhead. The first 1.5 miles are paved and gravel; the remainder is single-track trail. Aid stations are located at approximately 3.5, 5, 12, and 14 miles. The 10K is a loop course consisting primarily of single-track trail. GPS coordinates for the start area are 36.490481, -84.700717. Camping is available at Bandy Creek Campground via the National Park Service reservation system.

Awards are given to top finishers overall and by age groups, masters, grandmasters, veterans, and weight classes (Clydesdale and Athena). Age divisions are grouped in 10-year increments starting with 0-19. Course rules prohibit headsets, earphones, bicycles, baby strollers, roller blades, and pets. Runners under 12 must be accompanied by an adult, and an 18:00/mile minimum pace will be enforced. Aid and water stations are provided; runners are encouraged to carry their own water.
