About the race
The Big Bend Ultra is the 23rd annual trail race held on January 17, 2027 with a shared start and finish at the Barton Warnock Visitor Center in Big Bend Ranch State Park. Distances offered include:
- 10k
- 20k
- 35k
- 55k
- 100k
The course lies in extremely remote terrain with no cellular coverage and has been designated a gold tier Dark Sky Park, offering notable night sky visibility. The 10k is an out and back with no aid station. Most aid stations are remote with no crew or spectator access; the Contrabando station is the only station accessible by vehicle to spectators. Pacers are not allowed. Portable toilets are provided at the start and finish; Contrabando and Bravo have a permanent pit toilet while other stations use temporary privies.
The 100k field is limited to 100 participants and is subject to a strict 20 hour cut-off. All finishers receive a handmade clay finisher medal and a post race meal; 100k finishers receive a buckle. Bibs serve as meal tickets.
Awards are given to 1st through 3rd overall men and women, 1st Masters (50+), and age group winners. A portion of race proceeds supports the Friends of Big Bend Ranch State Park and the Big Bend Trail Alliance.
