Big Bend Ultra
The Big Bend Ultra is an annual trail running event held at Big Bend Ranch State Park with the start and finish at the Barton Warnock Visitor Center. The event includes multiple distances and uses remote desert trails with no cellular coverage on course. The race area is certified as a gold tier Dark Sky Park by the International Dark-Sky Association.
Distances:
- 10k out and back with no aid station.
- 20k course with aid stations and a cX Rating of 135.7.
- 35k course with aid stations and a cX Rating of 154.7.
- 55k course with aid stations and a cX Rating of 176.4.
- 100k course with aid stations, a cX Rating of 219.3, limited to 100 participants and a 20 hour cut off.
Aid and facilities are limited. Portable toilets are provided at the start and finish. The Contrabando and Bravo aid stations have a permanent pit toilet; other stations use pop up privy style toilets. The Contrabando aid station is the only one accessible to spectators by vehicle. Spectator and crew vehicle access into the state park is not allowed; only designated volunteers may access aid stations by vehicle. Pacers are not permitted on remote sections.
Finish recognition includes a handmade clay finisher medal and a post race meal for finishers; 100k finishers receive a belt buckle. Awards include top overall and age categories.
