Kiwanis El Segundo PTA Run for Education 5K|10K
The El Segundo PTA Run for Education is a community athletic event held in El Segundo, California. The race proceeds support the El Segundo Unified Schools, benefiting students from pre-K through 12th grade. The event is USA Track and Field (USATF) sanctioned and utilizes chip timing for participants in the competitive distances.
The courses offer a tour of El Segundo neighborhoods and schools, characterized by a coastal climate and varying elevations. The event features multiple distances to accommodate different age groups:
- 10K Run: A moderate-to-challenging hill course that completes the 5K loop twice with a slight modification.
- 5K Run/Walk: An easy-to-moderate hill course through residential neighborhoods on closed streets.
- 1K Kids Fun Run: An untimed two-loop race around Library Park for children ages 6 to 10.
- 0.5K Kids Fun Run: An untimed single-loop race around Library Park for children ages 2 to 5.
The infrastructure includes mile markers and multiple water stations along the route. Participants receive a custom race t-shirt, a goodie bag, and a custom die-cast finisher medal while supplies last. The event also features a Post-Race Finish Line Expo at El Segundo High School. Children aged 10 and under who are registered for the 5K may participate in the age-appropriate Kids Fun Run at no additional cost.
Awards are presented to the top three overall male and female finishers in the 5K and 10K, alongside medals for top performers across various age categories ranging from under 8 to over 80. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
