The Bideford Duathlon
The event comprises three legs over measured distances:
- 5 km run
- 25 km bike
- 5 km run
Competitors start with a mass start on Bideford Quay and use the quay area for transition. The transition area is at Bideford Quay Public Car Park. Registration normally opens at approximately 7.30am and there is an option to register the evening before at the same location.
The first run follows the Tarka Trail: from Bideford Quay, across Bideford Old Bridge toward Torrington and the Iron Bridge to a 2.5 km turnaround, then the same route back to transition.
The cycle leg follows a marked route toward Torrington on the A386, via Weare Gifford and past Torrington Golf Club, through town sections including Station Hill, then toward Monkleigh and along the A388 and A368 before returning to Bideford Quay and transition.
The second run returns toward Bideford Old Bridge, passes Clarence Wharf carpark, enters Ethelwynn Close and rejoins the Tarka Trail toward Instow; athletes reach the halfway mark and return to the finish along the same path.
Online entry is the primary registration method and event profits are distributed to charities and other good causes. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
