Beyond The Grave 5K
The Beyond The Grave 5K is a seasonal running event held in Lake Mary, Florida, featuring a course that winds through a historic cemetery under the stars. This non-chip-timed event emphasizes a community atmosphere with a festive Halloween theme, where participants are encouraged to wear costumes. The event proceeds support the Rotary Club of Seminole County Sunset Scholarship Fund, which provides financial assistance to local high school students for higher education.
Participants can choose from several distances and participation methods:
- 3.1 Miles: Known as the Double Grave Dare, this option consists of two loops through the cemetery grounds.
- 1.55 Miles: Referred to as the Spirit Sprint, this distance involves a single loop through the graveyard.
- 1 Mile: The Challenge Mile is a course designed for individuals of all abilities, including those with disabilities.
- 100 Yards: The Zombie Shuffle is a dash specifically for young children.
- 5K Virtual Run: An off-site option where participants complete the distance at their own pace and post results online.
The event features a costume contest with categories for creativity, spookiness, teams, and functional running attire. Registered runners for the main distances receive a headband flashlight to navigate the dark paths, a themed race shirt, and a finisher medal featuring a gravestone and zombie design. Children participating in the dash receive a finisher medal but do not receive a shirt or headlamp. The race takes place regardless of rain, starting and finishing near the Seacoast Bank parking lot.
