Bettye Butler Memorial Unity Run 5K
The United Way of Gordon County presents the 33rd annual Bettye Butler Memorial Unity Run, a community 5K fundraiser at the Calhoun Depot on Tuesday, September 22, 2026. The event uses chip timing so each participant’s official time begins when they cross the starting timing mat.
The 2026 theme is Under the Big Top. Participants are encouraged to wear circus themed apparel. The event includes sponsor booths at the downtown finish area, food trucks, family activities, a Best Dressed contest for participants, a Best Booth Award, and a post race awards ceremony. Organizers offer early bib pick up on the days before the race and bib pick up on race day.
Proceeds support United Way of Gordon County partner agencies and local programs that focus on youth development, literacy efforts such as United We Read, health services, financial stability, and community resiliency. The Unity Run regularly draws large crowds; recent events reported nearly 2,000 attendees and, in 2025, more than 1,600 registered participants with over 1,200 crossing the finish line. All race participants who cross the finish line are eligible for a $500 cash prize.
