2026 Bengal Triathlon (+Du & 5K)
The Bengal Triathlon is an endurance event hosted by Idaho State University at the Reed Gym in Pocatello. Managed as a capstone activity for sport management majors, the race follows a unique format where the swimming portion is completed during the week leading up to the main event. These swim times are then used to seed a time-trial start for the bike and run segments on Saturday morning.
Participants can choose from several event formats:
- Sprint Triathlon: 700-yard pool swim, 13-mile bike, and 5 km run.
- Duathlon: 13-mile bike and 5 km run.
- Aquabike: 700-yard pool swim and 13-mile bike.
- Aquathlon: 700-yard pool swim and 5 km run.
- 5K Run: 5 km running race only.
The swim portion typically takes place on the Friday before the race at the Idaho State University Reed Gym pool, though satellite swim locations are also available in Idaho Falls, Twin Falls, Lava Hot Springs, Rexburg, and Boise. The bike and run courses are open to vehicle traffic and are monitored by volunteers.
Registration is available for individuals and relay teams for the triathlon and duathlon. While various age groups are welcome, participants under 14 years of age must be supervised by a parent or guardian throughout the entire race, including the bike course. Registered participants receive finisher medals and event apparel. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
