Behemoth 50k & 25k
The Behemoth 50k & 25k is a free trail running event held on November 14, 2026 in Greenbrier State Forest, Caldwell, WV. The race uses two overlapping 25k loops and is organized as part of a WVMTR event; membership is not required.
Distances
- 25K : one 25k loop, about 2,425 feet elevation gain
- 50K : two loops, nearly 5,200 feet elevation gain
The course combines flowy singletrack, fast gravel roads, mountain bike loops, and a sustained climb up Kate's Mountain. The Young's Nature Loop includes Mabel Dowdy Trail, Young’s Nature Trail, Black Bear Trail, Old Fields, and a climb to an Overlook Aid Station. The Rocky Ridge Loop repeats parts of the descent and returns runners up Kate's Mountain for a second climb before a long descent and a final singletrack section to the finish.
Aid stations are located at the Start/Finish (Mile 15.5), Playground (Miles 6 and 23.5), and Overlook (Miles 11.5 and 18). All aid stations provide water, electrolytes, and light fare; runners are asked to bring personal fuel when possible. 50k runners may access vehicles between loops for resupply.
Parking is available at the pool parking lot near the Start/Finish. Forest restrooms close in the fall; port-a-potties will be provided at the Start/Finish. Finisher awards are given to all finishers and there are awards for top finishers in each division. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
