Beaufort River Swim and 5K Run

The 20th Annual Beaufort River Swim and 5K Run

This event offers open swims, combined swim and run options, and relay entries at the Beaufort waterfront in Beaufort, South Carolina. Distances include a 3.2 mile river swim and a 1 mile swim; there are single participant options that pair each swim with a 5K run, and relay choices are available. Proceeds benefit the Wardle Family YMCA Learn to Swim program.

The 3.2 mile course follows the Beaufort River estuary, starting at the Safe Harbor Port Royal Landing Marina and finishing at the day dock adjacent to Beaufort Waterfront Park. The 1 mile swim follows the same path beginning at the Beaufort Memorial Hospital dock. Both swims finish at the downtown marina day dock. The water temperature is typically in the mid 70s and surface conditions can range from calm to choppy. Large yellow buoys mark the swim route; the finish ramp is marked with a string of pool noodles and safety personnel monitor the course from stand up paddle boards, kayaks, and the day dock.

Safety and rules: swimmers must follow safety personnel instructions, no headphones or swim enhancing equipment are allowed, and wet suits are permitted but make participants ineligible for awards. Minimum ages apply for each swim. There is no same day registration; entry fees are non refundable and event cancellation decisions rest with the primary safety provider.
