Beast of Big Creek Skyrace
Beast of Big Creek is a weekend of mountain trail races held at Mount Ellinor near Hoodsport on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State. The event window is 30 July to 1 August 2027, with the Skyrace on 31 July 2027 and the Forest Loop on 1 August 2027.
- Skyrace: 24 km / 15 miles, 1,600 m vertical gain
- Forest Loop: 10 km / 6 miles, ~365 m / 1,200 ft vertical
The Skyrace begins near sea level and follows a steep singletrack route to the true summit of Mount Ellinor, reaching a high point around 5,944 ft at about 7 miles. The route includes a VK section on the upper trail and offers long-distance mountain views toward nearby glaciers and peaks. Aid station access is at mile 5.4 and mile 8.4; there is no aid at the summit turnaround. The course uses a different return route after the second aid station. Start and finish are at Big Creek Campground.
The Forest Loop follows Big Creek Trail through rainforest terrain, includes several wooden bridges at the high point, and reaches its high point at about 2.6 miles.
Race policies and logistics note that the event is a cupless, zero-waste effort, participants should carry at least 500 ml of water on the Skyrace, and poles are allowed. Prize money is offered for top finishers and a portion of entry fees supports Olympic Mountain Rescue and local trail work. Registration for the 2027 races is listed as closed.
