Event Overview

The Beast of Big Creek is a mountain running event held in Hoodsport, Washington, on the Olympic Peninsula. The races take place within the Olympic Mountains and utilize the Big Creek Campground as the central hub for the weekend. The event focuses on technical mountain terrain, specifically featuring a route to the summit of Mt. Ellinor.

Course Details

Participants can choose between two primary distances, each offering distinct terrain and elevation profiles:

  • Skyrace 22K: This course covers approximately 14 miles and includes over 5,300 feet of elevation gain. The route leads runners to the summit of Mt. Ellinor before returning to the base.
  • Forest Loop: This shorter option covers 8 km (5 miles) with 1,200 feet of climbing. The course traverses PNW rain forest terrain, passing along streams and over multiple wooden bridges.

International Series and Qualifications

The Skyrace 22K is recognized as the only North American stop in the Skyrunner World Series. Additionally, the event is part of the USA Skyrunner National Series and serves as a qualifying race for the Vert Running Series. Finishers of the event are eligible to earn a UTMB Index.

Logistics and Location

The event is staged at the Big Creek Campground, which serves as both the start and finish line for the races. Limited camping facilities are available on-site for the duration of the race weekend.
