Bears Ears Marathon
The Bears Ears Marathon is a point to point road race from Blanding to Bluff, Utah. The course is USATF certified and has a net elevation loss of about 1,700 feet over 26.2 miles, which the organizers note can assist with Boston qualification. The route passes views of Bears Ears National Monument, Monument Valley, Ship Rock, the Sleeping Ute, Comb Ridge, and the Abajo Mountains.

The starting elevation is 6,150 feet and the finish elevation is 4,300 feet. The course profile lists a gross descent of approximately 2,100 feet and a gross ascent of 400 feet. The first segment includes a gradual descent through mile 9. The second segment contains a five mile section described as the fastest and most scenic, passing through White Mesa and into San Juan County. The half marathon begins at mile 13.1 and half marathon runners are transported to that starting point. Shortly after mile 14 a larger drop moves runners from about 5,200 feet to 4,900 feet alongside Bears Ears National Monument. Miles 17 to 24 include a stretch of rolling hills before a final descent into Cow Canyon and the town of Bluff.
Aid stations are located at miles 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21 and 24 and provide water, GU Roctane, GU energy gels, and item drops. Fruit and food are available at the start and finish. Restrooms are at the start, mile 2, mile 13, mile 20 and the finish. Emergency medical support includes a roaming vehicle at mile 18 and at the finish line.
