Be a Hero 5K
The Be a Hero 5K is the sixth annual community event held on October 10, 2026 in Urbana, Illinois at 1301 N. Cunningham Avenue. The event offers separate running and walking options over a 5K distance.

Registration opens July 1, 2026 and closes September 10, 2026. The entry fee is $25. Awards and recognition are given in the race category only.
Fundraising is part of the event. Participants who raise $100 or more receive an official Cunningham hero cape. All proceeds from the 5K support Cunningham Children's Home, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. The organization provides residential treatment, special education and community-based services for youth and families. Cunningham serves 953 youth and families, many of whom have histories of abuse, neglect, trauma and mental health challenges and may have experienced rejection and loss.
