Event Overview
The BB-Charnwood Marathon is a walking and running event hosted by Brush Bowls Club and the Sherwood LDWA group. It takes place on Saturday, 21st March 2026. The event starts and finishes at the Brush Bowls & Sports Club in Loughborough.
Route Details
The route covers the Charnwood area. All participants start from the Brush Bowls & Sports Club and head towards the Outwoods and Blackbrook Reservoir. The course passes Mount St Bernard Abbey and Bardon Hill. From Copt Oak, the route splits. The short loop goes to Beacon Hill and returns through the Outwoods. The long route proceeds to Bradgate Park, Swithland Woods, and Woodhouse Eaves before finishing back at the clubhouse.
Course Options and Entry
There are two main course distances:
- 27 miles (Adult Long and Under 18 on Long)
- 18 miles (Adult Short and Under 18 on Short)
Registration is open for participants aged 16 and older. Participants aged 16-17 must be accompanied by a responsible adult for the duration of the event. The overall event limit is 300 entries, with no entries available on the day.
On the Day
Registration opens from 07:00 to 09:00. Parking is available at the clubhouse, and car sharing is encouraged. A flexible start window is offered: walkers can start between 07:00 and 08:00, and runners can start between 08:00 and 09:00. The event operates on a total time scale of 11.5 hours, based on a pace of 2.5 miles per hour. All entrants must finish by 18:30. Checkpoint 3 closes at 16:00. For the long route, there is a cut-off at Checkpoint 2 (12.5 miles) by 14:00; arrivals after this time will be diverted to the short route. The entry fee includes snacks and drinks at checkpoints and a hot meal at the finish. All finishers receive a certificate.
Requirements and Rules
All participants must follow the provided route description, check in at all checkpoints, and carry the required equipment. This includes appropriate clothing and footwear, waterproofs, a compass, a whistle, a torch, a basic first aid kit, a mug, and a specified Ordnance Survey map. Well-behaved dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead and under close control at all times. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
