Event Overview

The 10th annual Base 2 Space is a charity stair climb held at the Space Needle in Seattle. Participants ascend the landmark's two open-air staircases, consisting of 832 steps, to reach the top. The course offers views of downtown Seattle, Mt. Rainier, and the Puget Sound. All donations raised during the event benefit Fred Hutch Cancer Center and the Space Needle Foundation to support cancer research and community initiatives.

Participation Details

The event is open to adults and youth between the ages of 8 and 17. Registration is limited to the first 4,000 climbers. Upon arrival, participants can choose between a racing staircase and a non-competitive staircase. Specific requirements include:

  • Adult Registration: Includes a minimum fundraising requirement of $200. Applicants for the elite category must be able to run a 5 to 6 minute mile.
  • Youth Registration: Includes a minimum fundraising requirement of $100 and a limited edition t-shirt. Climbers aged 10 and younger must be accompanied by a guardian.

Amenities and Logistics

Participants are assigned to specific wave start times. All finishers receive a t-shirt and a medal. Entry also includes access to the Space Needle’s indoor and outdoor observation decks, which feature a revolving glass floor. The event is located at 400 Broad St in Seattle, Washington.
