Barrathon 2026
The Barrathon is a road half marathon held on the Isle of Barra. The event is a loop of 13.1 miles (21.09 km) with an elevation gain of 928 feet (283 m). The course runs on open roads in the Western Isles, is waymarked with mile markers and includes water stations approximately every 4 miles. Cyclist and coastguard marshals and course marshals are present to guide and assist runners.
Runners gather at Castlebay School for pre-race briefing and are led to the start area near the Dunard Hostel. Everyone finishes at Castlebay School where finishers receive a bespoke medal and are invited to lunch. Food for spectators is available from local outlets and shops.
Additional event elements include:
- Fun run for U10
- Fun run for U17
- Evening ceilidh at Castlebay School with tickets purchasable at registration, limited to two per runner
Practical notes: run on the left side of the road, allow vehicles through, wear race number on the front, and use road shoes. No dogs or pushchairs are permitted. Organisers advise collecting race bibs and ordered t-shirts on the Friday before race day to reduce race-day queues. There will be a temporary road closure in front of the school on race day and no dedicated event parking is provided; athletes are responsible for finding nearby parking.
Entries open 28 January 2026. Capacity, fees, and merchandise are set by the organisers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
