3 Islands Marathon Hebrides : event details

The 3 Islands Marathon Hebrides is an officially measured and Scottish Athletics certified road marathon held across three islands in the Outer Hebrides. The route begins at Lochboisdale Marina on the island of Gasay, follows the main road through South Uist, continues onto Benbecula through the townships of Hacklet and Torlum, and finishes at the Dark Island Hotel on Benbecula.

The event covers the full marathon distance split into four stages. Each stage is between 5.8 miles and 7 miles, with three changeover checkpoints for relay teams. The race can be entered as:

  • Solo marathon runner covering all four stages
  • Pair sharing the distance between two runners
  • Team of three or four sharing the four stages
  • Community teams assembled by random draw from individual entrants who are not running the full distance

Prizes are allocated for Solo placements including 1st to 3rd male and female and various veteran categories. Pairs and teams have male, female, and mixed categories with top place awards; Community teams receive separate prizes for first, second and third. The event has a six hour cut off time; entrants with a predicted finish of five hours or more may be required to start earlier. Entry fees include discounted rates for Scottish Athletics members and a service fee applied at sign-up. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
