Event Overview
The 3 Islands Marathon Hebrides is a road marathon based in the Outer Hebrides on the West coast of Scotland. This event is officially measured and certified by Scottish Athletics. Participants travel between different islands during the event, starting at Lochboisdale Marina on the Island of Gasay and finishing at the Dark Island Hotel on the Isle of Benbecula.
Participation Options
The event offers several ways to complete the course:
- Marathon (26.2 miles): For individuals running the full distance solo.
- Relay Teams: Options for pairs or teams of three to four runners.
- Community Teams: Individual entrants drawn at random to form relay teams.
The course is divided into four distinct legs, with each leg measuring between 5.8 miles and 7 miles. There are three dedicated changeover checkpoints along the route for relay participants.
Relay and Community Draw
Individual entrants who decide they cannot complete the full marathon distance as the date approaches may convert their entry into the community draw. These participants run one or two legs as part of a randomly assigned team. The community team category does not have gender-specific divisions, but prizes are awarded to the first, second, and third-place teams.
Guidelines and Awards
The event has a total cut-off time of 6 hours. Participants who anticipate a finish time exceeding 5 hours are moved to an earlier start wave. Prizes are awarded for the top three male and female solo finishers, as well as various veteran categories. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
