Event details

The 3 Islands Marathon takes place on 19 July 2026 in the Outer Hebrides. It is an officially measured and certified Scottish Athletics road marathon. The route starts at Lochboisdale Marina on the island of Gasay, follows the main spinal road through South Uist, continues onto Benbecula and finishes at the Dark Island Hotel. The route passes through the townships of Hacklet and Torlum. The event has a race cut-off time of six hours. Runners with a predicted finish time of five hours or more are required to use an early start. Total places are listed as 110 and the event status is open.

Race format, legs and entry

The marathon distance is covered in four staged legs, each between 5.8 miles and 7 miles, with three changeover checkpoints. Entries can be Solo, Pairs, or Created Teams of three or four. There is also a Community Team draw that randomly groups individual entrants to cover the four legs; the draw takes place one week before race day. Prize categories include Solo 1st-3rd Male and Female and various veteran categories. Community Teams have a separate 1st-3rd prize category and no gender-related categories. Entry prices show a discounted rate of £28 (for Scottish Athletics members) and a standard rate of £30 until 1 July 2026. A service fee of 4% (minimum 50p) applies to each sign-up.
