Event Overview
The 3 Islands Marathon Hebrides is an officially measured and certified road marathon in the Outer Hebrides on the west coast of Scotland. The race starts at Lochboisdale Marina on the island of Eriskay and finishes at the Dark Island Hotel on the Isle of Benbecula.
Event Format
Participants can run the marathon distance as a solo runner, in a pair, or in teams of three or four. The course is divided into four legs, each between 5.8 miles and 7 miles in length, with three changeover checkpoints. There is a 6-hour cutoff time for the event. Teams with a predicted finish time of five hours or more must use an early start.
Community Teams
There is a "Community Teams" category. Individuals who have entered under the solo category but are not running the full distance are entered into a random draw one week before race day to form teams to cover the four legs. A separate prize category exists for these community teams.
Prizes
Prizes are awarded in several categories.
- Solo: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd for male and female runners, including various veteran categories.
- Pairs and Teams (3 or 4): 1st place only in male, female, and mixed categories.
- Community Teams: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd placed team prizes.
Entry and Fees
Entries for the 2026 event open on 30th September 2025. Discounted entry fees are available for members of Scottish Athletics. The "Places Available" count refers to pairs or teams, not individual entries. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
