Barkin' Mad Ultra 2026
Barkin' Mad Ultra 2026 is a two day trail running and walking event at Rokeby Recreation Reserve in Rokeby, Victoria. It is organised by Aus Hair of the Dog Rescue Inc. to raise funds and awareness for the Baw Baw Shire dog shelter. The event has capacity for 400 participants and dogs and aims to collectively raise over $30,000.
Race distances include:
- 2 km
- 5 km
- 10 km
- 20 km
- 50 km
The event welcomes runners and walkers with or without dogs. Certain dog breeds and ages are restricted for longer distances to protect animal welfare; for example, brachycephalic breeds and dogs younger than one year are not permitted in the 20 km and 50 km races. All dogs must be on non-retractable leads, wear identification, and participants must carry dog waste bags.
Mandatory human gear varies by distance and includes minimum fluid capacity and safety items such as a mobile phone and snake bandage, with additional clothing and equipment required for longer distances. Vet staff and aid stations are available on course; aid stations provide water, sports nutrition, some snacks, sunscreen and dog treats. Dog crates are available at aid stations and the event hub. Cut off times are specified for each distance and sweepers will monitor the course. Course markings and GPX files are provided to help participants follow the route.
