About the race
Barkin' Mad Ultra 2026 is a two‑day ultrarunning and walking event at Rokeby Recreation Reserve in Rokeby, Victoria, organised by Aus Hair of the Dog Rescue Inc. The event combines trail running and fundraising to support the rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming work of the charity, with a stated community fundraising aim of raising more than A$30,000 and a participant capacity of 400.
Dates: 3 and 4 October 2026. The event offers multiple distances on native forest and rail trail terrain:
- 2 km
- 5 km
- 10 km
- 20 km
- 50 km
Categories include run and walk options, entries with or without dogs, an adaptive runner category with classification and guide provisions, and a 50 km team relay. Entry fees vary by distance and category.
Rules and safety provisions: all dogs must be on leads for the entire course, have identification, and owners must carry mandatory dog gear such as poo bags and a collapsible water bowl. Breed and age limits apply for longer distances to reduce risk to dogs; brachycephalic breeds and dogs younger than one year are restricted from the 20 km and 50 km races. Human mandatory gear is specified by distance and includes minimum fluid requirements and safety items. Aid stations supply water, sports nutrition, snacks, sunscreen, dog treats, and dog crates for fatigued animals. Results will be published on the event website.
