About the race
BAMM presented by OMM is Björkliden Arctic Mountain Marathon, a two‑day mountain orienteering event held in the Riksgränsen area. Teams of two (men, women or mixed) navigate with map and compass across open fjäll, valleys and glacier‑near landscapes and visit control points along planned routes. The competition requires route planning, endurance and teamwork.
Participants choose between the following classes
- 30
- 50
- 70
Classes 50 and 70 require teams to carry all personal and safety equipment for two days and one night on the mountain. In class 30 the organiser transports tents and sleeping bags to the night camp so teams run with a lighter pack. Maps and courses are issued before the first stage so teams can plan route choices. Day two uses a pursuit start where leading teams begin first and other teams start according to day one results; teams more than one hour behind start together before the pursuit.
The race finishes in Riksgränsen where facilities such as showers and a sauna are available, and the programme includes an evening prize ceremony and dinner. The event is presented under the title BAMM supported by OMM and information on travel options mentions transfers from Kiruna airport and train access to Riksgränsen station near the hotel.
