Balloons Over 66 includes a community 5K and several children's track races. The event takes place in Lincoln, Illinois at 1400 Primm Road. Registration is required online in advance; no on-site registration or race-day sign-up is available.

Registration opens on March 20, 2026. The 5K has a listed registration closing date and a registration fee of $30. Kid races have a separate registration period and a fee of $10. Register before the listed shirt deadlines to receive a T-shirt for the respective event.
Race bib and T-shirt pickup is scheduled at the Lincoln Park District, 1400 Primm Road. Kid races take place at the Lincoln Community High School track. Flags will mark distances at the track and groups are asked to be at their start line shortly before each race.
The 5K is chip timed by Kinetic Timing and uses timing equipment at the start. There is one water stop on Home Avenue. Finishers may be eligible for a bottled water or an alcoholic beverage at Spirited Republic on presentation of a race bib; alcoholic beverages require age 21 plus valid ID.
