Balgowan Trail Run
The Balgowan Trail Run takes place on 01 November 2026 at Michaelhouse, R103, Balgowan. Hosted by the Balgowan Conservancy in partnership with Michaelhouse and KZNTR, the event combines trail running, conservation and local community involvement within the Michaelhouse reserve.
The route passes through indigenous grasslands and NCT plantations. Wildlife observed on the property includes oribi, various bird species and the reserve’s Nguni cattle. The course features a steady climb to a hilltop viewpoint with wide views across the Midlands, including Midmar Dam, iNhlosane and, on a clear day, Giant’s Castle.
All courses are loop formats. Distances, elevation and aid station details are:
- 21 km 640 m elevation, 3 aid stations
- 11 km 297 m elevation, 2 aid stations
- 6 km 188 m elevation, 1 aid station
There is no compulsory kit specified for the races and courses are subject to change. Accommodation options are listed for nearby stays, and the event notes that pets are not permitted on site.
