Balboa Park Run - San Diego
Balboa Park hosts a traditional orienteering event that guides participants through gardens, Spanish-style architecture, and park trails. Courses use map scale 1:4000 with 2.5 m contours and are measured as the bird flies.
The event offers three course choices:
- Beginner course, 2 km as the bird flies
- Intermediate course, 3.5 km as the bird flies
- Advanced course, 5.5 km as the bird flies
Electronic punching will be used for scoring; all participants must bring, rent, or purchase an e-punch. Rental e-punches are available for $5. Controls will be AIR+ enabled. A two hour time limit applies and all competitors must return to headquarters and download within that limit so organizers can confirm safety.
Entry is limited to 75 participants and pre-registration is required. Standard San Diego Orienteering registration policies apply. Fees are $20 for adults and $10 for juniors under 21, with a $5 early bird discount available through March 28. Registration closes on April 17 or when the entry limit is reached. Volunteers receive up to a $20 credit toward a race registration fee.
Headquarters is on the grass south of the Air and Space Museum parking lot. Parking is ample; it is free for San Diego residents who register their vehicles and paid for non-residents. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
