Balboa Park Orienteering event in San Diego
This is a traditional orienteering event held at Balboa Park, 1900 Presidents Way, San Diego, CA 92101. The event uses a map at scale 1:4000 with 2.5 meter contours and set courses through park trails, gardens, and Spanish style architecture.
Courses are offered with the following straight line distances:
- Beginner : 2 km
- Intermediate : 3.5 km
- Advanced : 5.5 km
Electronic punching is required for scoring. Rental electronic punches are available for $5 and participants may use code 000000 when registering. Controls will be AIR+ enabled. There is a two hour time limit; all competitors must return to headquarters and download to confirm they are safe. Volunteers will search the course for anyone who does not check in.
All participants must pre register. The event is limited to 75 participants and registration closes when the limit is reached or by April 17. Fees listed for the event are $20 for adults and $10 for juniors under 21, with an early bird discount of $5 available through March 28.
Headquarters is on the grass area between the Air and Space Museum and the Automotive Museum in Balboa Park. There is ample parking in the park; parking is free for San Diego residents who register their vehicles and paid for non residents. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
