BadgerPalooza
BadgerPalooza is an ultramarathon event held at the Autumn Lake Winery in Williamstown, New Jersey. The competition follows a specific format where athletes run a 5 km loop starting at the top of every hour. To remain in the race, participants must finish each loop in less than an hour and be present in the start corral for the next segment. If a runner fails to start a loop with the group at the designated time, they are disqualified from the event.
The course features varied terrain within the winery grounds, including trails of hard-packed dirt, grass, sand, and loose dirt. The route circumnavigates two lakes and passes through the vineyard. Depending on weather conditions, the course may include mud or stairs.
Participants can choose from several distance and time options:
- 24 Hour (74.4 miles / approximately 120 km total)
- 12 Hour (approximately 60 km total)
- 6 Hour (approximately 30 km total)
Relay options are available for all time blocks. For the 24 hour race, teams can consist of two or four members. In the two-person relay, each member must complete at least nine 5 km loops. In the four-person relay, each member must complete at least six loops. For the 12 hour and 6 hour relays, teammates must each complete half of the total loops.
Scoring is based on the cumulative chip-timed results of every completed 5 km segment. There is a grass field near the course for tents and personal aid stations. An official aid station provides water, sodas, broth, coffee, and various snack foods. This is a cup-free event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
