About the race
The Badger Mountain Challenge is a trail running event in Richland, Washington organized by Nomad Trail Runners. The race uses trails on Badger Mountain and the Badger Mountain Preserve, which was established in 2005, and offers views across the Columbia Basin. The event combines small-town atmosphere with organized race support and includes post-race food for entrants.
There are multiple race categories and special divisions:
- 15 km
- 15 km ruck
- 55 km
- 50 miles
- 50-mile ruck
- 100 km
- 100 miles
A 50-mile and 55 km double entry is offered as a separate race category for runners who complete both events. Ruck divisions require a carried backpack or rucksack weighing between 20 and 30 pounds, not counting water or food used during the race. All ruck finishers receive a custom Badger rucking patch. Volunteers receive a free race shirt and either a free entrance to a future Badger Mountain Challenge 15 km race or a discounted fee for longer distances. The event notes an Early Bird pricing period in December that preserves the previous year’s prices. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
