Event Overview
Avianto Trails Orienteering is an orienteering event held at the Avianto Trail park in Muldersdrift, Gauteng. This competition is part of the Gauteng Bush Orienteering Series and represents the ninth event in the 2026 calendar. Participants use a map to navigate between specific checkpoints along a route that is not marked. The goal is to locate all checkpoints and return to the finish in the fastest possible time.
The venue is located at the Avianto Estate Clubhouse and Sports Park. The terrain consists of a mixture of riverine bushveld, eucalyptus trees, and grassland, featuring various old farm settlements and ruins. While water points are provided on the courses, participants are encouraged to carry their own water due to the arduous nature of the terrain.
Course Categories
The event offers several courses with varying technical and physical requirements:
- Brown Course (6 km): Designed for experienced orienteers with technical navigation.
- Red Course (6 km): Aimed at trail runners with easy navigation entirely on paths.
- Blue Course (5 km): Intended for experienced orienteers with technical navigation.
- Green Course (4.2 km): Suited for intermediate orienteers with moderate navigation.
- Light Green Course (3.5 km): Aimed at novice orienteers with moderate navigation.
- Orange Course (2.8 km): A simple introduction for novice orienteers and teenagers.
- Yellow Course (1 km): A short route designed for children.
Facilities and Participation
Groups of up to four people are permitted to enter together. The entry fee for the event includes the day visitor fee for the Avianto Trails. The onsite clubhouse restaurant is available for meals, and the facility includes a children's play park. A prize giving ceremony follows the conclusion of the event.
