The 50 Mile race is a long-standing event in California trail running and is entering its 44th year. The 50K was added seven years ago and uses many of the same trails as the 50 Mile course.
The course follows trails that traverse the length of Catalina Island and return to Avalon. Descriptions note ocean vistas along the route, views of the Pacific Ocean, and occasional wildlife sightings including bison. The event uses staffed aid stations and volunteers to support participants.
