Autism Awareness 5K
The Autism Awareness 5K is a community sports event held in Avenal, California, supporting the Special Needs Support Squad. This 2nd annual gathering combines physical activity with a car show to raise awareness and funds for families navigating the special needs journey. Participants can participate by running, walking, or rolling, as the event emphasizes inclusion for children with autism.
There are several distances available to accommodate different age groups:
- 5K transition for adults and participants aged 10-17.
- 2 Miles for children aged 9 and under.
Proceeds from the registration fees are directed toward the Special Needs Support Squad to fund family events, educational workshops, and a year-end trip to Lego Land for a child with special needs. Participants who register by April 6, 2026, receive an event t-shirt. The base for the race is located at 325 Stanislaus.
Following the running events, the car show takes place featuring various vehicles and live music. The event serves as an opportunity for the community to learn about inclusive practices for families and children with special needs while observing traditional car culture and local entertainment.
