Ascent at Mountain Air 5K
The Ascent at Mountain Air 5K is scheduled for September 19, 2026, at Mountain Air Drive in Burnsville, NC. The event is the race's 10th anniversary and is organized within the Mountain Air community, finishing at a private airstrip at approximately 4,600 feet elevation.
The course is a 5K road race on paved roads that climbs about 1,800 feet from the community main gate to the airstrip finish. Timing is electronic using race bibs, and participants are asked to keep their bib visible at the finish. Packet pickup is available at the Mountain Air Sales Lodge on race day. A bag drop area will be provided at the start; bags will be transported to the finish for reclaiming after the race.
Shuttles will transport spectators and non-runners to the finish before the race and will run from the finish back to the main gate after the awards. Parking is provided in three areas near the Mountain Air Visitor Center, including two grass areas and an additional lot just past the visitor center.
Post-race activities include music, local food and refreshments. An awards ceremony near the finish presents commemorative awards to the top ten male and female finishers; awards will not be mailed. A cash bonus of $150 is available for male and/or female athletes who break the course record in the Open, Masters (40-49) and Grand Masters (50 and over) divisions.
