Ascent at Mountain Air 5K
The Ascent at Mountain Air is scheduled for Saturday, September 19, 2026, at Mountain Air Drive in Burnsville, North Carolina. The event is a 5K road race that starts near the community main gate and finishes at the private airstrip on top of Mountain Air.
The course climbs approximately 1,800 feet on paved roads from start to finish, with the finish area at about 4,600 feet elevation. Runners should expect continuous uphill running until the finish, which offers elevated views of surrounding mountains and forests during the fall color season.
Race logistics include packet pickup and late registration on race day at Mountain Air, spectator shuttles to the finish and return shuttles to the main gate, and parking in three areas near the Mountain Air Visitor Center. A bag drop will be available at the start and bags will be moved to the finish line for collection.
The race is bib timed. Each participant will receive a special 10th anniversary race shirt. A post race gathering will include music and local food and refreshments. Commemorative awards will be presented to the top ten male and top ten female finishers near the finish line; awards will not be mailed. A $150 cash bonus will be awarded to any male and/or female who breaks the course record in the Open, Masters (40 to 49), or Grand Masters (50 and over) divisions.
