Art O'Neill Challenge (Ballot 2026)

The event retraces a historic escape from Dublin Castle on January 6, 1592. The route follows the line of that escape to Glenmalure and commemorates Art O'Neill, who died of hypothermia during the flight to safety.

The challenge is a 60 km route that uses road and open mountain terrain, running from Dublin Castle to Glenmalure. The route is open to both runners and walkers.

Entry is limited to 200 places and places are allocated by ballot. A non-refundable payment of €5 is required to register for the ballot. If an entry is drawn, payment of the full entry fee is required to confirm a place. The published entry fee is €175 and this fee includes a t-shirt. Entries are not transferable. Refunds are not allowed, though deferral of an entry for one year may be possible in exceptional circumstances by prior agreement with the organisers.

Expressions of interest and online ballot registration close in October 2025. Registration is strictly limited to one entry per person; multiple entries identified in the ballot will be removed. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
