ARI Oxbow Adventure Trek and 5K
The Archaeological Research Institute presents the 3rd annual Adventure Trek at the Oxbow Kickoff to Summer Festival on June 6, 2026, at the Guard Archaeological Preserve in Lawrenceburg, IN. The event combines an organized 5K run/walk with an untimed Adventure Trek and a festival that highlights ARI’s public archaeology work.
The 5K follows Oxbow trails and finishes at the GAP. Prizes are awarded to top finishers and for a Best Archaeologist Costume. Participants who complete the 5K scavenger hunt are entered in a raffle for an annual Oxbow Conservancy membership.

The Adventure Trek offers hands-on, research-inspired stops that explore how archaeologists find and study sites. Treks launch in intervals and participants select a start time during registration; ARI provides detailed overviews to registrants before the event. The trek is presented as an inclusive, untimed experience and participants may request accommodations.
Festival elements include food trucks, local vendors, live music, community booths, fundraising activities such as a dunk tank, and access to ARI’s Atlatl and Spear Range. Parking is available at the Hollywood Casino overflow lot with ARI signage and volunteer direction; shuttle service and handicapped parking are provided.
