About the race
Since 1986 the event has been held at the Halfmoon Lake Day Use Facility in Pinckney Recreation Area near Gregory, Michigan. The competition uses the open waters of Halfmoon Lake for the swim, paved country roads for the bike legs, and the Potowatomi Trail for the trail runs.
Event options include:
- Olympic Triathlon : 1500m swim, 28-mile paved road bike, 5.3-mile trail run
- Sprint Triathlon : 750m swim, 14-mile paved road bike, 3.5-mile trail run
- Olympic Aquabike : 1500m swim, 28-mile paved road bike
- Sprint Duathlon : 1.5-mile run, 14-mile paved road bike, 3.5-mile trail run
- Olympic Relay and Sprint Relay : teams of two or three
- Open Water 1 Mile Swim : 1 mile open water swim
A State Park permit or Recreation Passport is required to enter Pinckney Recreation Area. The Ann Arbor Tri Club and the University of Michigan Tri Team serve as host clubs and provide volunteers for the event.
Courses are subject to change at the discretion of the race director for safety reasons. The event follows a Leave No Trace policy with race-day recycling and composting. A post-race gathering offers food for participants, including pancakes and breakfast burritos. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
