Angeles Crest 100 Mile Endurance Run
The Angeles Crest 100 Mile Endurance Run is a longstanding ultramarathon first held in 1986. The race covers 100 miles through the San Gabriel backcountry and is run on mountain trails and forested terrain. Organizers note that the route and nearby picnic areas and campgrounds have been developed with minimal displacement of the natural setting, with ongoing support from the U.S. Forest Service and volunteers.
The 36th annual AC100 is scheduled for October 3, 2026. Highway closures and the effects of the Eaton Fire required a revised 2026 course: a new out and back route starting and finishing at Loma Alta Park and extending to Mt Hillyer and back. Official materials for 2026 include a course map and elevation profile, a checkpoint cutoff chart with aid-station mileage and official cutoff times, and a published race book.
Preparation and community activities around the event include scheduled trail work days and a free three-day training camp that covers more than two thirds of the course. The training camp itinerary lists these distances:
- Day 1 - 30 mile loop from the Loma Alta start and finish
- Day 2 - 26 mile loop from Red Box
- Day 3 - 21 mile out and back from Shortcut Saddle
The event is a qualifying race for Western States 2027 and appears on the UTMB Index for 100 mile qualification. Volunteer roles include aid stations, trail work, and ham radio support. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
