The American Legion Freedom Run takes place on May 9, 2026. It is held on the Eureka Trail at 1400 East Madison Avenue in Athens, Tennessee.
Events
The event includes several participation options:
- 5K Open – A timed race on the Eureka Trail.
- 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk – A one-mile event.
- Sleeping But Supporting – A registration option for supporters.
- Virtual Run Anywhere 5K – A virtual 5K that can be completed between April 25 and May 10, 2026.
Course
The main 5K race is run on the Eureka Trail. This is a crushed stone trail that follows a former railroad bed. The full trail winds through woodlands, rural landscapes, and the communities of Mashburn and Englewood.
Logistics
Packet pickup is available on race day. Parking is at the Eureka Trailhead parking area. Proceeds from the event support the projects of American Legion Post #68, including children's patriotism education, assistance to veterans, and community celebrations.
For the virtual event, participants can use the RaceJoy app (included with registration) to track and submit their results, or submit results manually. Virtual participants are not eligible for awards. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
